Sands China Team Members Graduate from University of Macau’s One-Year Diploma Programme
Fourth intake of students earn diplomas in business management
(Macao, April 8, 2019) –
A group of 22 Sands
China team members has completed the
University of Macau’s customised one-year
Diploma Programme in Business Management –
the fourth intake of team members to do
so.
Sands China Ltd. and the University of
Macau’s Centre for Continuing Education
honoured the group at a March 28 graduation
ceremony at the university. The graduating
team members come from a variety of gaming
and non-gaming departments at Sands China,
including table games, facilities, concierge
and
others.
The diploma programme is both practical and
adaptable by design, and has been
tailor-made for Sands China team members.
The programme structure was further adjusted
this year based on the university’s
observation and study of previous cohorts of
team members. Coursework was also updated to
align with the company’s real-life business
situations.
“Investing in our team members continues
to be a top priority for Sands China,”
said Wen Hongyan, senior vice president
of human resources for Sands China Ltd.
“A programme like this enables our team
members to grow academically and
professionally, which benefits them, our
company, and the industry as a whole. We
hope team members will continue to take
advantage of this unique diploma
programme and contribute their knowledge
and skills to Macao’s development as a
world centre of tourism and
leisure.”
Sands China was the first company to work
with the University of Macau to develop a
one-year diploma programme, launching it in
the 2014/15 academic year. Since then, more
than 160 team members have earned diplomas,
including this latest cohort. The next group
of team members, 24 in total, have already
begun their
coursework.
Students in the programme must complete
eight courses to graduate, comprising a
total of more than 330 hours of coursework.
Sands China supports their participation by
sponsoring MOP 10,000 (equivalent to 55 per
cent) of each student’s course fees, and by
adjusting team members’ work shifts around
their class
schedules.
Sands China is committed to developing a
well-trained workforce, and offers a variety
of horizontal and vertical mobility
opportunities to its team members –
including through internal promotions and
integrated resort career development
programmes. The company is also dedicated to
the training and professional development of
Macao locals, including those not employed
by Sands China – such as the staff of
partner retailers – with the aim of
contributing to Macao’s growth as a world
centre of tourism and
leisure.
