Sands China Holding Occupational Safety and Health Week
Encourages safe habits and procedures for team members’ workplace well-being
(Macao,
June
3, 2019) –
Sands China Ltd. is
holding an Occupational Safety and Health
Week (OSH Week) June 3-6 and again June
10-13 at the back-of-house team member areas
of Sands China properties, to promote team
members’ workplace safety awareness and
wellness.
At various times at Sands® Macao,
The Venetian® Macao,
Sands® Cotai Central and The
Parisian Macao, team members are able to
visit game booths to raise their OSH
awareness and win prizes, and attend
seminars conducted by the Labour Affairs
Bureau (DSAL), which feature talks,
exercises and videos on OSH topics that
include hotel industry health and safety
tips and knowledge of OSH-related anatomy to
prevent strains and other injuries.
Sands China’s OSH Week kicked off Monday
with a ceremony at The Venetian Macao,
attended by Wong Chi Hong, director of DSAL;
Lam Iok Cheong, acting deputy director of
DSAL; Tang Weng Kei, acting head of the
Occupational Safety and Health Department of
DSAL; Kou Chi Leong, chairman of the Macau
Occupational Health and Safety Association;
Lee Chong Cheng, vice president of the Macao
Federation of Trade Unions; Wen Hongyan,
Sands China’s senior vice president of human
resources; and Mike Naylor, senior vice
president of facilities for Venetian Macau
Limited.
Wong then presented certificates to
seven of Sands China’s OSH wardens –
team members with specialised training
in occupational safety and health. The
seven wardens were recognised for
completing an advanced course to become
OSH trainers, allowing them to conduct
in-house warden training for team
members.
Various Sands China department heads
then presented awards to more than 90
OSH wardens for participating in safety
and risk assessment workshops to raise
their OSH awareness and skills. The
company currently has nearly 250 OSH
wardens, team members who have regular
meetings with various departments to
formulate precautionary measures and
supervise related practices, ensuring
that all OSH objectives are met by
following up on the results.
“Sands China has long paid attention to
team members’ occupational safety and
health, and we believe in the principle
of ‘safety, health, and prevention
first,’” said Wen. “Our gratitude goes
to DSAL for their support of this
initiative, and we hope team members
will benefit from the resources
available to them during OSH Week.”
Sands China signed an Occupational
Safety and Health Charter in 2017, aimed
at fostering further collaboration
between employers and employees,
promoting a safe and healthy working
environment, and establishing a
comprehensive occupational safety and
health management system.
The company’s commitment resulted in the
recent earning of an ISO 45001:2018
Occupational Health & Safety Management
System certification, which seeks to
reduce occupational injuries and
diseases through measures such as
eliminating hazards and minimising OSH
risks. ISO 45001:2018 specifies
requirements for an OSH management
system and gives guidance for its use,
enabling organisations to provide safe
and healthy workplaces by preventing
work-related injury and ill health, as
well as by proactively improving its OSH
performance.
