Sands China Team Members Take the Clean Plate Challenge for Fifth Straight Year
Team members reduce food waste while learning healthy eating habits
(Macao,
June
4, 2019) –
Sands China Ltd. team
members completed the Clean Plate Challenge
May 27-29, the fifth year in a row the
company has held the sustainability
promotion.
The three-day activity challenged team
members at the company’s staff dining rooms
to take only what they would eat and turn in
a clean plate – a challenge that was
completed a total of nearly 66,000 times. An
initiative of the Sands ECO360 global
sustainability strategy, the Clean Plate
Challenge had the goal of encouraging team
members to reduce food waste and inspiring
them to live a sustainable and healthy
lifestyle.
This year’s campaign added the message of
“eat healthy, eat with no food waste,” and
shared information on healthy diet habits
with team members. The company’s food and
beverage team supported the initiative by
preparing meals with less sugar, salt and
oil, and with a sample plate on display
featuring the ideal proportion of grains,
protein, fruit and vegetables for optimum
health. Information was also given on
healthy food preparation methods, such as
steaming, blanching and baking.
“Reducing our carbon footprint is a
fundamental indicator of our
contribution to a cleaner environment
and a more sustainable model of doing
business,” said Mark McWhinnie, Sands
China’s senior vice president of resort
operations and development. “We are
grateful to our team members who have a
crucial role to play in carrying out the
company’s Sands ECO360 strategies, and
their participation in eco-friendly
initiatives like the Clean Plate
Challenge have a significant impact on
our effort to run greener operations.”
Sands China’s Clean Plate Challenge is
one of the many ongoing efforts of the
Sands ECO360 global sustainability
strategy, which utilises measures like
energy saving, resource recycling,
conservation and community engagement.
An initiative of Sands China’s parent
company, Las Vegas Sands Corp., Sands
ECO360 is designed to help minimise the
company’s environmental impact and lead
the way in sustainable building
development and resort operations.
