Sands China Team Members Take “Plastic Free July” Challenge
Part of company’s Sands ECO360 global sustainability efforts
(Macao,
August
1, 2019) –
Sands China team members
just completed the Plastic Free July
challenge, with around 3,000 team members
having participated.
As part of the Sands ECO360 global
sustainability strategy, Sands China Ltd.
recently encouraged its team members to
continue bolstering their personal efforts
toward living a lifestyle that is
sustainable – through increasing team
members’ awareness of ways they can help the
environment.
By promoting participation in the Plastic
Free July challenge, Sands China aimed to
motivate team members to refuse single-use
plastic, drive behavioural change and
influence others in a positive way.
Plastic Free July is an annual global
movement challenging people to choose to
refuse single-use plastic for the month
of July. Started in Australia in 2011,
it aims to raise awareness of plastic
waste issues and encourages plastic-free
lifestyle changes. Global participation
currently numbers in the millions.
“As Sands China continues to explore
more ways of running a sustainable
operation, the company feels it is
vitally important for all of us as
individuals to adopt an eco-conscious
approach to our daily lives,” said Mark
McWhinnie, senior vice president of
resort operations and development for
Sands China Ltd. “We were very pleased
to see the enthusiastic response from
team members to take the Plastic Free
July challenge; it serves as further
indication of the outstanding qualities
of our team members, who are making a
positive impact through both their
professional and personal lives.”
During the month-long campaign, Sands
China encouraged team members to share
their plastic-free pledges and daily
tips on social media with the hashtags
#SandsChinaPlasticFreeJuly,
#SandsEcoFriendly and #SandsEco360, and
to challenge their friends and
colleagues to do the same and get more
people involved. Plastic-free ideas
included using reusable water bottles,
coffee cups and bags; using soap bars
instead of liquid soap; and switching to
a bamboo-handle toothbrush. All team
members participating in Plastic Free
July received a stainless steel straw
and cleaning brush.
Sands China’s environmental
sustainability efforts are guided by the
Sands ECO360 global sustainability
strategy of parent company Las Vegas
Sands Corp. (LVS). Sands ECO360 is
designed to utilise measures like energy
saving, resource recycling, conservation
and community engagement in order to
help minimise the company’s
environmental impact and lead the way in
sustainable building development and
resort operations. For more information,
