Sands Cares Ambassadors Pack Typhoon Emergency Kits with Macau Red Cross
Kits go to residents in Macao’s low-lying areas
(Macao,
August
8, 2019) –
Sands Cares Ambassadors
helped pack emergency typhoon response kits
at the Macau Red Cross headquarters Aug. 1
and distributed them on Aug 6, in an
initiative by the company to help enhance
the Macao community’s precautionary measures
ahead of typhoon season.
The activity is also one in a year-long
series of celebratory activities leading up
to the 10th anniversary of the Sands Cares
Ambassador programme this month, with the
theme Spreading Love and Embracing Our
Community.
Around 30 Sands Cares Ambassadors assembled
500 kits in total at the event, which Sands
China co-organised with the Macau Red Cross
several months ago. The kits were then
distributed on Aug. 6 to people living in
the low-lying areas of San Kio and Patane to
help them better prepare for typhoons. The
areas served were selected according to the
Macao SAR government’s emergency response
plan. A second batch of 500 kits is planned
for a later stage.
The kits were customised and sourced
using MOP 280,000 in donations to the
Macau Red Cross, which were collected in
February 2019 during Sands China’s team
member talent competition Start Your
Show. Each kit contains a variety of
emergency items inside a waterproof bag,
including a radio, flashlight, first aid
pack and blanket, whistle, bottled
water, biscuits, and other items,
including an emergency response leaflet,
provided by the government.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands
China Ltd., said: “Sands China believes
in helping the community, especially in
times of need, and this initiative is
one of those important efforts. We are
thankful to the Macau Red Cross for
their collaboration and to the Social
Welfare Bureau for their leadership in
this area.”
The Sands Cares Ambassador programme was
established in August 2009 to give Sands
China team members an outlet for serving
the local community by organising
community activities and initiatives
that work toward creating a better
Macao. With membership of more than
3,300 volunteers from across all Sands
China properties – Sands®
Macao, The Venetian® Macao,
The Plaza® Macao,
Sands® Cotai Central and The
Parisian Macao – the Sands Cares
Ambassadors have contributed 100,000
hours of voluntary community service
since the programme’s founding.
The Sands Cares Ambassador programme is
part of Sands
Cares, the global
corporate citizenship programme of
parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
