DICJ Leads Casino Entry Ban Explanatory Session for Sands China
(Macao,
October
16, 2019) –
The Macao Gaming
Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ)
recently delivered an explanatory session on
the casino entry ban for gaming
practitioners at The Venetian®
Macao, targeted at Sands China’s gaming
floor team members. Around 150 team members
were in attendance.
Led by representatives from DICJ and Sands
China, the Sept. 18 session allowed team
members to learn more about the casino entry
ban, such as its application outside work
hours and the regulation’s exceptions –
gaming practitioners are permitted to enter
local casinos during the first three days of
Chinese New Year or if there is a valid
reason. Representatives from the DICJ
introduced the existing responsible gaming
measures, reporting hotline and details of
implementation, while a representative from
Sands China explained to the team members
about the job positions that are banned from
entering casinos when off duty.
“Responsible gaming remains a key area of
focus for Sands China,” said Dr. Wilfred
Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “We took
the lead in setting up a Responsible Gaming
department and appointed a chief responsible
gaming officer to oversee these efforts.
Therefore, we were very pleased to have the
DICJ present this information session for
our gaming team members, to ensure
compliance with local regulations and
provide for the well-being of our team
members.”
According to the Gaming Participation Law
(Law 17/2018), from Dec. 27, 2019 onwards,
when off duty, the employees of casino
concessionaires and junket operators are
banned from entering casinos, including
staff who are involved in table games and
slot operations, as well as staff who are
not directly involved in gaming operations,
such as cashiers and cage staff, marketing
hosts, food and beverage outlet workers,
cleaners and those connected to surveillance
operations.
Sands China remains committed to the
well-being of its guests and team members,
and recognises the importance of responsible
gaming to the Macao community. Sands China
was the first gaming operator in Macao to
launch a self-exclusion programme in 2004,
and was a pioneer in including responsible
gaming training in its company-wide team
member orientation programme. Sands China
established its comprehensive responsible
gaming programme in 2007, with the goals of
contributing to the continuous development
of the Macao community, bearing corporate
responsibility in addressing social issues
and developing an environment and a culture
of responsible gaming in Macao.
