Sands China Donating 500,000 Facemasks to Help Protect Public Against Coronavirus
(Macao,
February
11, 2020) –
In light of the current
global shortage of facemasks in response to
the coronavirus epidemic, Sands China Ltd.
is donating 500,000 medical facemasks to the
Macao SAR government, as part of the
company’s pledge to support Macao’s efforts
to combat the fast-spreading virus. Macao
Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao
Ieong U accepted the first batch of 300,000
facemasks on behalf of the Macao SAR
government Tuesday at The Parisian
Macao.
“As a company rooted
in Macao, Sands China considers it as part
of our corporate social responsibility to
continually look out for the wellbeing of
the Macao community and to assist in periods
of need,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president
of Sands China Ltd. “Our thoughts are with
the entire local community during this time
of caution, and our company is pleased to be
able to respond to the urgent need for
facemasks in Macao as we cooperate with the
Macao government in its virus prevention
efforts. We are confident that, with
vigilance and collective action, Macao will
navigate through this crisis successfully.”
Alongside frequent
and proper handwashing, doctors and medical
agencies around the world have stressed the
importance of wearing facemasks as a vital
and easy-to-implement measure to diminish
the spread of the novel coronavirus and to
protect oneself and others against
infection.
As Macao’s largest
integrated resort operator and as a
subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp., Sands
China is able to take advantage of its
global procurement network to assist Macao
in obtaining facemasks during this
high-demand period when stocks are in
limited
supply.
Sands China’s
coronavirus relief efforts are part of Sands Cares,
the global corporate citizenship program of
parent company Las Vegas Sands
Corp.
