Sands China Donating 30,000 Bottles of Hand Sanitiser to Local Community Groups to Help Combat Novel Coronavirus
Part of company’s MOP 5 million COVID-19 relief fund
(Macao,
February
24, 2020) –
Sands China Ltd. is
donating 30,000 bottles of alcohol-based
hand sanitiser gel – 9,000 litres in total –
to local community organisations as part of
the company’s novel coronavirus (COVID-19)
relief
efforts.
The 300-ml bottles
were procured locally, and were donated to
three local nongovernmental organisations at
a ceremony at The Parisian Macao Monday: the
Women's General Association of Macau, the
General Union of Neighbourhood Associations
of Macau (UGAMM), and the Macau Federation
of Trade Unions
(FAOM).
Each NGO is
receiving 10,000 bottles to distribute to
people in need, including their members and
the wider
community.
“Sands China Ltd.
pledged to donate MOP 5 million in relief
funds earlier this month as a way to help
Macao safeguard the public from this
fast-spreading virus,” said Dr. Wilfred
Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “Through
the donation of hand sanitisers and
facemasks, and through other measures, we
hope our company’s corporate social
responsibility efforts are able to make a
significant difference in Macao’s fight
against the novel coronavirus, in support of
the government’s virus prevention
initiatives.”
Lam Yuen Mui,
president of the Women’s General Association
of Macau, said: “Our thanks go to Sands
China for donating cleaning and disinfection
supplies, which fully reflects their social
responsibility of caring for society and
contributing to the fight against this
epidemic. This donation will help the
Women’s General Association of Macau to
carry out our virus prevention work. The
hand sanitisers will be passed on to our
frontline workers, to elderly who live
alone, to underprivileged families, and to
people with reduced mobility. We will
continue to play our unique role in helping
local families and the community fight
against epidemics, and we will work
hand-in-hand with Macao residents to build a
beautiful
home.”
Ng Siu Lai,
president of the board of directors of the
General Union of Neighbourhood Associations
of Macau, said: “We thank Sands China for
its continuous support to social services
and long-term care for vulnerable groups. It
is now a crucial moment for epidemic
prevention and control in Macao. With Sands
China providing hand sanitisers to the
underprivileged, and supporting the
anti-epidemic work of the association, it
fully embodies the company’s commitment to
fulfil corporate social responsibility and
its determination to work with the community
to fight the epidemic. The General Union of
Neighbourhood Associations of Macau will
continue to work with all sectors of the
community to better prevent epidemics and to
build a harmonious
community.”
Lee Chong Cheng,
president of the Macao Federation of Trade
Unions, said: “Front-line workers’ demand
for virus prevention products increases as
industries in Macao gradually resume
operations. We thank Sands China for its
timely support to solve the urgent needs of
the workers, and the federation will share
the hand sanitisers with our front-line
workers shortly. We hope the epidemic will
soon be over and residents can return to
normal life as early as
possible.”
Alongside wearing
facemasks, doctors and medical agencies
around the world have stressed the
importance of frequent and proper
handwashing as a vital and easy-to-implement
measure to diminish the spread of COVID-19
and to protect oneself and others against
infection. Alcohol-based hand sanitiser gels
provide a convenient and easily accessible
way to disinfect hands whether at home or in
public.
Sands China’s
donation is part of the company’s pledge to
donate MOP 5 million toward Macao’s novel
coronavirus relief effort, and is part of
Sands Cares,
the global corporate citizenship program of
parent company Las Vegas Sands
Corp.
