Sands Cares Ambassadors Helping Clean and Sanitise Special Education Schools
Part of company’s cleaning initiative for local schools and ongoing COVID-19 relief effort
(Macao,
May
14, 2020) –
A group of Sands Cares
Ambassadors helped clean and sanitise
Concordia School of Special Education
Saturday, as part of Sands China’s cleaning
initiative for local schools and its ongoing
COVID-19 relief effort for the Macao
community.
Sands China and the
Macao Autism Association jointly organised a
school-cleaning initiative that aims to
provide a clean learning environment for
children with special needs, in line with
the government’s guideline to provide a
child-friendly policy for special education
schools. Concordia is the first school to
benefit from this cleaning service
initiative by Sands China Ltd., which will
continue over the next several weeks, with a
goal to benefit a total of 1,500 teachers
and students through the support of 200
Sands Cares Ambassadors – in addition to a
target to donate 20,000 children’s
facemasks.
“Sands China is very
pleased to be able to offer our team member
volunteers’ cleaning services and our
donation of masks for local schools,” said
Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China
Ltd. “With Macao being a tightknit
community, it is important that we look out
for one another, especially during
challenging times like the coronavirus
pandemic. Our thanks go to the Macao Autism
Association for their support, and to our
Sands Cares Ambassadors for continuing to
demonstrate the best of Sands China’s core
values in their service to the Macao
community.”
Even though classes
are still on hold, the Macao Education and
Youth Affairs Bureau has advised that
schools should continue providing “friendly
services” for students with special
education needs.
With many parents of
special needs children finding it hard to
take care of their children at home during
this lockdown period, many of them choose to
continue taking their children to school,
where there are spaces for them to play
games and interact with their teachers, who
help look after them and meet their unique
needs.
To date, Sands
China’s COVID-19 relief efforts for the
Macao community have included donations of
nearly 600,000 items of sanitising
equipment, financial support for 500
underprivileged families and cash donations
to 34 local elderly and drug rehabilitation
centres.
Sands China’s
cleaning service and mask donation
initiative for local schools is part of the
company’s on-going COVID-19 relief effort
for the Macao community, and is part of
Sands Cares,
the global corporate citizenship program of
parent company Las Vegas Sands
Corp.
