First sporting event of 2021 and city's first-ever 10K run
(Macao, Apr. 28, 2021) – A group of 9,000 ran in
the 2021 Sands China Macao International 10K on
April 11, with the successful event marking the city's
first sports competition of the year. On the event day,
runners participated in two race categories, the 10K
itself and a Fun

Organised by
the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the
General Association of Athletics of Macau, the city's
first-ever 10K run was title sponsored by Sands China
Ltd., who invested MOP 8 million in the
event.
Sands China
Ltd. President Dr. Wilfred Wong said: "Sands China is
thrilled to have helped make this event the resounding
success that it was. We wanted to both encourage regular
exercise in Macao while also boosting tourism and the
economy during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful to
the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the
General Association of Athletics of Macau for their
work, and to our team members for their support. The
company hopes that the success of this event will
encourage more international sporting events to be held
in Macao as the city continues making strides in its
pandemic
recovery."
Close to 130
Sands China team members, including Sands Cares
Ambassadors, ran in the race to show their support and
to promote a healthy lifestyle among team members.
Performers from Sands China's entertainment team were on
hand to energise the runners and enhance the festive
atmosphere.
Some runners
dressed up in creative costumes to participate in the
Sands 10K Presents: The FUNkiest Costume Award.
Each of its 10 winners received a one-night hotel stay
at The Londoner® Macao and a food and
beverage voucher, totalling a MOP 3,500 prize value
each.
