Sands China Hosts Sharing Session on the Spirit of NPC and CPPCC
(Macao,
Mar. 16, 2022) – Sands China Ltd. hosted a
sharing session for team members and local youth
Wednesday at The Londoner® Macao, about the
recent sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC)
and the Chinese People's Political Consultative
Conference
(CPPCC).
The sharing
session, which covered key topics such as economy and
education, aimed to convey the spirit of the NPC and
CPPCC sessions, while helping participants gain a
big-picture perspective of the nation's and Macao's
development.
Entitled the
Sands China Distinguished Speaker Forum Series – The
Spirit of NPC and CPPCC Sharing Session, the
event was led by four distinguished guests: Ho Teng Iat,
vice chairman of the Committee for Liaison with Hong
Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National
Committee of the CPPCC; Lok Po, member of the NPC and
director of Macao Daily News; Ho King Lun, member of the
NPC and president of the Industry and Commerce
Association of Macau; and Chan Kam Meng, member of the
CPPCC and president of the Macau Federation of Trade
Unions.
More than 160
people attended the sharing session, including Sands
China management, interns and students of the company's
development programmes. A live feed was also provided at
the back-of-house areas of Sands China's properties,
offering team members an alternative way to participate
in the event.
The sharing
session was attended and advised by Zhao Su, assistant
to the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office
of the Central People's Government in the Macao
SAR.
In her
remarks, Ho Teng Iat said that women are an important
force in economic and social development. She encouraged
women to equip themselves and enhance their
competitiveness, thereby playing a unique role in both
the family and social contexts – so as to contribute to
the further development of Macao, the Greater Bay Area
and the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in
Hengqin.
Meanwhile, Lok
highlighted the importance of the principle of "patriots
governing Macao" being mentioned – for the first time
ever – in the central government's work report delivered
to the NPC, which he believes will lay a solid
foundation for the sustained implementation of 'One
Country, Two Systems' in
Macao.
Ho King Lun
explained in detail his proposal regarding the
establishment of an international Chinese carbon trading
market in the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone
in Hengqin and a pilot zone for low-carbon
development.
Chan said that
he supports the idea of setting up a Greater Bay Area
Mediation Platform online, adding that he actively
promotes and encourages professional certification in
labour mediation, as well as the establishment of a team
of professional labour
mediators.
Wednesday's
sharing session was moderated by Dr. Wilfred Wong,
president of Sands China Ltd., who said: "As the
national 14th Five-Year Plan is off to a good start, it
is important that our team members fully understand the
strategic significance of Macao's full alignment with
China's national development strategy and its
integration into national development overall. Our
gratitude goes to our guest speakers for their insights
and inspiration. We hope the information shared in
today's distinguished speaker forum series can help team
members better understand the nation's and Macao's
latest developments and grasp the opportunities brought
about by national development, thus contributing to the
city's economic diversification and sustainable
development."
Valentino Ali,
a team member from operations development, said: "I want
to thank the four guest speakers for their important
insights, which helped me gain a deeper understanding of
the nation's goals and objectives, thereby allowing me
to be better positioned to grasp the opportunities
brought about by the development of Macao and the
Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. I
believe that such understanding can drive me to make
greater contributions to the prosperous development of
Macao's tourism
sector."

China Distinguished Speaker Forum Series – The
Spirit of NPC and CPPCC Sharing Session is part
