
Sands China Team Members Learn About National Symbols at Seminar
Enhancing the professionalism of team members and local youth through multiple channels
(Macao,
Apr. 7, 2022) – An audience of more than 180
learned about new local laws on the use and protection
of national symbols at a seminar at The
Londoner® Macao Thursday, presented by Alice
Lo Lai Peng, senior technician at the legal and civic
awareness promotion department of Macao SAR Legal
Affairs
Bureau.
Entitled
Professionalism Education for Sands China Team
Members – The Correct Use and Protection of
'National Flag, National Emblem and National
Anthem,' the seminar aimed to enhance the
national identity of team members and local youth and
their respect for the motherland by learning more about
these national
symbols.
It was
attended by Sands China team members, along with interns
and students of Sands China's various talent development
programmes. Lawrence Ma Lei Cheong, director of the
public relations division of the Government of the Macao
Special Administrative Region Legal Affairs Bureau, was
also in attendance to show
support.
Additionally,
the seminar was streamed live for team members on
screens at the back-of-house team member areas of all
Sands China properties. Members from local associations,
including the Macao Association of Young Employees in
the Gaming Industry, the Macao Youth Federation, the
Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, and the
Macao Polytechnic University Alumni Association, also
enjoyed a livestream of the seminar via WebEx. A
recording of the livestream will be available for team
members on the company's internal platform, allowing
more team members opportunities to self-study the
materials
online.
Lo's seminar
discussed the amendments to Law No. 5/1999, which came
into effect in July of last year and covers "the use and
protection of the National Flag, Emblem and Anthem."
Topics in the seminar included:
• Guidelines encouraging Macao residents to use the
national flag when appropriate and to wear a badge
featuring the national emblem on solemn occasions
• Venues to display national and regional flags on
special dates
• Prohibition on the improper use of the national
flag and national emblem
• Occasions to sing and play the national
anthem
Dr. Wilfred
Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: "It is our
duty to maintain the nation's dignity, and we hope that,
by taking part in this seminar, team members will be
able to enhance their understanding of the importance of
the proper use of national symbols. We are grateful to
the Legal Affairs Bureau and to Ms. Lo for her guidance,
which will allow our team members to convey their
patriotism with a better understanding of the correct
use of national
symbols."
Team members
were eager to learn more about the topics, participating
actively in the seminar's Q&A session. One of the those
attending the seminar said: "My sincere thanks to the
representative of the Legal Affairs Bureau for sharing
her useful knowledge about the law on the national flag,
emblem and anthem, and how to apply it. With this
interesting seminar, we now understand the correct way
to use these national symbols, and how we can show
respect and protect
them."
Sands China

including professional literacy training courses,
Greater Bay Area visits, professional lectures, a
distinguished speaker forum series, various professional
exchange activities, and film screenings. More than 30
professionalism activities have been held to date,
totalling over 10,000
participants.
