(Macao,
Dec. 26, 2022) – Sands China Ltd. recently
invited Charles M. Choy, the co-chairman of
Macau Beer Company Limited, to share the
inspirational story of the successful local brand with
local suppliers that have graduated from the Sands
Procurement Academy and with Sands China team
members.
The
business sharing session was held Nov. 23 at The
Venetian® Macao's Adelson Advanced Education
Centre, as part of Sands China's efforts to promote the
development of local SME
suppliers.
The session's
70 participants comprised local suppliers from the 9th
to 12th cohorts of the Sands Procurement Academy, Sands
China team members participating in the company's
various innovative local talent development programmes,
and Sands China
executives.
Choy
highlighted how SMEs could develop into competitive
enterprises and equip themselves for success as the
region's economy transforms. He also cited the continued
growth of Macau Beer in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and
encouraged local suppliers and the younger generation to
seize the opportunities brought about by the development
of the GBA and the
nation.
Charlie Cai,
vice president of procurement and supply chain for
Venetian Macau Limited, said: "We are glad to offer this
opportunity for local SME suppliers and our team members
to gain insights and inspiration from a local success
story, and we are grateful to Mr. Choy for participating
in this business sharing session. Local suppliers are
our strategic partners in mutual growth and we are
pleased to continue our efforts to support their
enterprises."
One of the
Sands Procurement Academy graduates, Steven Lau from
Kangaroo King Home (Macao) Company Limited, said: "Thank
you to Mr. Choy for sharing his thoughts with us.
Besides benefiting a lot from the talk, I also admire
how Macau Beer dares to explore and strives for
excellence, and I'm looking to visiting its brewery in
Zhuhai."
The Sands
Procurement Academy training programme is a component of
Sands China's longstanding support of Macao's SMEs as
part of the company's Local Small, Medium and Micro
Suppliers Support Programme. A first-of-its-kind
industry training, the academy is co-organised with the
Macao Chamber of Commerce and the Macao Productivity and
Technology Centre (CPTTM). It delivers practical
knowledge to local SME suppliers to help them gain
experience and capacity for working with large-scale
international corporations – by sharing business
knowledge and skills to promote the development of their
businesses.
After
initially targeting a few key categories of local
suppliers, the academy has been open to all local SMEs
in Macao since 2019 – giving a broader range of SMEs the
opportunity to benefit from the skills and knowledge
offered by the academy's
professionals.
Sands China
has remained committed to procuring locally and helping
Macao's SMEs grow as part of the company's corporate
social responsibility efforts. Sands China's total
procurement spend in 2021 was MOP 9.9 billion,
of which 91 per cent went to Macao enterprises,
including over MOP 2.1 billion to local
SMEs.
