Sands China Holds Successful OSH Month
New initiatives encourage good habits for occupational safety and health
(Macao,
Jan. 3, 2023) – Sands China recently concluded a
successful OSH Month, after drawing the
participation of over 7,500 team members during the
Nov.7-Dec.7 campaign to promote team members'
occupational safety and health
(OSH).
During the
annual campaign, team members participated in various
activities and initiatives to raise OSH awareness.
Besides gaining OSH knowledge and skills, team members
learned about the importance of making sports and
exercise a regular habit and the role that one's diet
plays in maintaining a healthy
lifestyle.
Dr. Wilfred
Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: "With the
guiding principle of 'safety, health, and prevention
first,' we remain committed to preventing accidents,
creating a safe environment, and encouraging the overall
health and well-being of team members. While ensuring
occupational safety and health is a collaborative
effort, its success depends on many factors, and key
among them is awareness and understanding among team
members. Hence, with our annual OSH Month, we
continuously develop new initiatives to share knowledge
that positively impacts team members' safety and health
not only at work, but in their home lives as
well."
Sands China
launched several new initiatives for OSH Month in
2022:
Other featured
activities were back-of-house OSH roadshows
offering health checks and consultations, game booths,
and health products for sale; and seminars on
topics that included acupuncture, heart health,
preventing back strain, and first
aid.
Sands China
also recently presented its annual OSH Awards,
which recognise departments that have demonstrated
excellence in occupational safety and health. The OSH
Awards were established in 2020 as the first-of-their
kind among Macao's integrated resort operators, aiming
to promote occupational safety and health to team
members through the company's learning and communication
platform.
Sands China
signed its Occupational Safety and Health Charter in
2017, with the aim to foster further collaboration
between employers and employees, promote a safe and
healthy working environment, and establish a
comprehensive occupational safety and health management
system. Since the charter's signing, team members have
attended various OSH trainings organised by DSAL or
Sands China more than 239,000 times, comprising over
237,000 training hours provided to team members to
date.
Sands China
was also a pioneer in introducing and training its OSH
Wardens – team members with specialised training in
occupational safety and health. OSH Wardens have regular
meetings with various departments where they formulate
precautionary measures, supervise related practices, and
do follow-ups to ensure that all OSH objectives are met.
Nearly 850 team members have been trained as OSH Wardens
to date.
