Sands China Hosts Sharing Session on the Spirit of NPC and CPPCC
(Macao,
Apr. 3, 2023) – Sands China Ltd. held a seminar
about the recent sessions of the National People's
Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference (CPPCC) March 28 at The
Londoner® Macao for management team members and local
youth.
Dr. Wilfred
Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., moderated the
sharing session, and said: "2023 is the opening year for
the comprehensive implementation of the spirit of the
20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,
with both hopes and challenges coexisting. Sands China
is therefore very pleased to have hosted this seminar,
as it helps its participants to develop an in-depth
understanding of the spirit of the NPC and CPPCC
sessions. We want to encourage all of our team members,
including young professionals, to have a comprehensive
understanding of the nation's development path and its
significant decisions. This will enable them to fuse
into the country's overall development and capitalize on
the opportunities presented by the construction of the
Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. By doing so,
they can make valuable contributions toward building a
better future for Macao under the framework of One
Country, Two
Systems."
Entitled the
Sands China Distinguished Speaker Forum Series – The
Spirit of NPC and CPPCC, the event was led by
four distinguished guests: Kou Hoi In, member of the NPC
Standing Committee and president of the Macao
Legislative Assembly; Iong Weng Ian, member of the NPC
and president of the Board of Supervisors of the Women's
General Association of Macau; Ho Ion Sang, member of the
Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and
deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR; and
Lee Chong Cheng, member of the CPPCC National Committee
and president of the Macao Federation of Trade
Unions.
The sharing
session was attended and advised by Sun Yaohua, director
of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office
of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special
Administrative Region. Ng On Lou, acting head of the
Research and Data Analysis Division of the Gaming
Inspection and Coordination Bureau was also in
attendance.
More than 230
people attended the sharing session, including Sands
China team members and students of the company's
development programmes. Sands China provided on-site
simultaneous English interpretation to convey the spirit
of the NPC and CPPCC for non-Chinese speakers. The
company also provided a live feed of the event at the
back-of-house areas of Sands China's properties,
offering team members a way to participate in the event
remotely.
In his
remarks, Kou highlighted that the institutional reform
of the State Council demonstrates the central
government's unswerving resolution to overcome obstacles
in all circumstances. He also expressed his support to
the formation of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of
the Communist Party's Central Committee, as it
exemplifies the fact that the central government has
placed importance on the roles and functions of both
Hong Kong and Macao – thus helping facilitate Macao's
integration into the country's overall
development.
Iong explained
in detail her proposal to accelerate the construction of
an integrated talent training mechanism for Hengqin and
Macao, as she believes that it is the most critical
aspect of promoting the construction of the
Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in
Hengqin.
Meanwhile, Ho
conveyed the spirit of the speech made to the Macao
delegation by Zhao Leji, member of the Politburo
Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party
Central Committee, in which he spoke about ensuring the
healthy and orderly development of Macao's gaming
industry, among other
things.
Lee stated
that the spirit of craftsmanship is the driver of the
high-quality development of enterprises. He therefore
encouraged the participants to work together in
contributing to the development of Macao's moderate
economic
diversification.

China Distinguished Speaker Forum Series – The
