Sands China Supports ARTM's Therapeutic Garden
Rooftop garden promotes sustainability and healing
(Macao, May
9, 2023) – Sands China Ltd. is sponsoring the
Therapeutic Garden, a first-of-its-kind farming
project in Macao pioneered by the Manna for People
Association that aims to promote sustainability
and provide a healing experience for the members of the
Association for Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of
Macau
(ARTM).
In support of
Sands China's sponsorship, around 80 Sands ECO360
Ambassadors participated in workshops April 15
and May 6 at the ARTM service centre in Coloane's Ka Ho
village to learn how to help ARTM create the therapeutic
garden – a place where its members can connect with
nature and learn new skills through a unique farming
experience, thus helping them start a new model of
healthy
living.
Located on the
rooftop of the service centre, the 520-square-metre
garden is being constructed to provide a dynamic
platform to engage both the local community and ARTM
members, and raise awareness about mental health and
sustainable living in
Macao.
Sean McCreery,
Sands China's executive vice president of operations,
said: "Sands China is very proud to be the first
integrated resort operator to provide support to ARTM's
Therapeutic Garden programme, a unique and impactful
initiative in the community. We are also very pleased
that our team members were able to join the programme's
workshops, where they learned hands-on how urban farming
can contribute to building a green city, counteract
climate change, and support the local
community."
ARTM provides
detoxification and rehabilitation projects targeting
individuals seeking a treatment goal of abstinence,
opioid reduction, or opioid stabilisation and other
addictions through two dedicated treatment
centres.
Sands China's
support to ARTM's Therapeutic Garden is part of the
company's environmental sustainability efforts under the
Sands ECO360 global sustainability strategy of
parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp. Sands ECO360 is
designed to utilise measures like energy saving,
resource recycling, conservation and community
engagement in order to help minimise the company's
environmental impact and lead the way in sustainable
building development and resort operations. More
