Sands China Builds 3,000 Kits for Caritas Macau in Annual Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build

More than 280 team members and Caritas Macau volunteers assemble kits as part of annual global initiative to address food insecurity in Sands' regions

(Macao, Jun 25, 2024) – Sands China Ltd. hosted the third annual Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build to benefit community partner Caritas Macau Tuesday. The event was part of a unified effort to address food insecurity in Las Vegas Sands' regions around the world and will benefit elderly residents, the disabled, poor families, food bank recipients, and others in Macao.

Sands China assembled 3,000 food kits, comprising 21 tons in total, with Sands Cares Ambassadors helping distribute them to those in need at Caritas Macau service points in July and August. Each food kit contains 18 food items, including staple foods like oil, rice, macaroni, canned food, biscuits, and others. More than 280 volunteers from Sands China and senior volunteers from Caritas Macau's Centro de Cuidados Especiais Longevidade gathered at The Venetian® Macao's Cotai Expo to participate in the event.

"This event represents one of our most important contributions to the Macao community, as our team members once again demonstrated their commitment to the mission of Caritas Macau, helping to ensure that everyone in Macao has access to food," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd. "It's incredible to see our team members work together for this cause, especially because we join hands with our sister property Marina Bay Sands in Singapore in making a larger impact on this critical issue."

Addressing food security issues and supporting disadvantaged people are two primary focus areas of the global Sands Cares community engagement programme. In line with these priorities, Sands China has partnered with Caritas Macau since 2022 to address hunger among at-risk communities, along with supporting other efforts of the NGO.

Paul Pun Chi Meng, secretary-general of Caritas Macau, said: "Our thanks go to Sands China for organising this programme for the third consecutive year. The food kits they donated have helped fulfil the basic needs of underprivileged groups and alleviate their financial difficulties. Additionally, we appreciate Sands China for inviting senior volunteers from Caritas Macau to join this event, where they could further their contribution to society. We were pleased with how they engaged in volunteer service, spreading warmth and kindness together with the volunteers from Sands China."

Sands China kicked off this year's Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build with an opening ceremony Tuesday at The Venetian Macao's Cotai Expo, officiated by Tang Yuk Wa, deputy director of the Social Welfare Bureau of the MSAR government; Pun; and Sands China executives.

In addition to working with Caritas Macau, Sands China has donated more than 1,700 kg of surplus bread items to local green enterprise Macau ECOnscious in support of its Macau Community Fridge initiative since 2022.

The Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build is one of three signature Sands Cares initiatives held in Las Vegas Sands' regions around the world, including the Sands Cares Global Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World and the Sands Cares Accelerator, a programme that helps advance non-profit organisations to achieve greater community impact. Together, these programmes unify Sands properties in common goals to address global priorities including hardship relief, disaster response and preparedness, education, cultural and natural heritage, and local business and non-profit partner development to meet the needs of Sands' communities.

The event is part of this year's celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme. Sands China launched the programme in August 2009, becoming the first integrated resort operator in Macao to establish a volunteer team; membership now surpasses 3,300 volunteers from across all of Sands China properties. The company's community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
