Sands China Brings Back Responsible Gaming Carnival for Parents and Children

Teaching smart financial management through fun and interactive activities


(Macao, Aug 29, 2024) – Sands China held its second Sands China Responsible Gaming Parent-Child Happy Carnival Aug. 17 at The Venetian® Macao, giving over 150 team members, members of local NGOs, and their children an afternoon of fun and educational activities together.


Sands China collaborated with five local organisations for the carnival, which was held in support of the "Seeking Help for Winning the Future" responsible gaming promotions of the Macao government. Themed on "Passing Down the Wisdom About Financial Management to the Next Generation," the carnival's 10 fun and interactive activities had the objective to improve family communication, develop smart financial management concepts, and increase responsible gaming awareness among families.


"At Sands China, we understand that parents have a profound influence on their children's financial habits, and we are therefore pleased to bring back this responsible gaming carnival for the second year. The carnival features a variety of creative and fun parent-child games, aiming to enhance financial literacy through interaction," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd. "We hope that while enjoying family time, parents can help children understand the importance of financial management, cultivate positive spending attitudes, savings habits, and the spirit of helping others. Our thanks go to all who participated, and to the Macao SAR government in leading the way with its responsible gaming promotions."


The carnival was co-organised by Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, Young Men's Christian Association of Macau, Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home, Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, and Macao Bosco Youth Service Network. It was supported by the Social Welfare Bureau, the Education and Youth Development Bureau, University of Macau, and Macao Polytechnic University.


Guests of honour at the carnival's opening ceremony were Zhao Heqing, deputy director-general of the Department of Social Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Daniel Tang, deputy director of the Social Welfare Bureau; Aster Ng, acting head of the Department of Games and Liaison Studies of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Macao SAR; Lei Wai Man, acting head of the Centre of Moral Education for the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Professor Davis Fong, director of the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming at University of Macau; Johnny Siu, deputy director of the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies of Macao Polytechnic University; Austin Vong, president of The Youth Volunteers Association of Macao; Posso Ip, service director of the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office; Grace Kuan, general secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association of Macau; Pak Kin Pong, supervisor of the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home; Dickson Tam, centre-in-charge of Bosco Youth Service Network; Dr. Wong; Sean McCreery, executive vice president of operations of Sands China Ltd.; and Andy Kobel, senior vice president of casino operations of Sands China Ltd.


Sands China remains committed to the well-being of its guests and recognises the importance of responsible gaming in the Macao community. Sands China was the first gaming operator in Macao to launch a self-exclusion programme in 2004, and was a pioneer in including responsible gaming training in its company-wide team member orientation programme. Sands China established its comprehensive responsible gaming programme in 2007, with the goals of contributing to the continuous development of the Macao community, bearing corporate responsibility in addressing social issues and developing an environment and a culture of responsible gaming in Macao.
